This October, the $75 million Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park will welcome the public after three and a half years of construction. This expansive 22-acre area promises to enhance how residents and visitors interact with the river, with its grand opening slated for the weekend of October 25–26. Celebrations will feature free events anticipated to attract over 50,000 attendees, merging the park's debut with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy’s Harvest Fest. Alongside the park, a new 17-foot boardwalk fronting Riverfront Towers is set to enhance Detroit's riverfront connectivity, enabling continuous scenic walks along the Detroit River for nearly five miles. The park, named after Ralph C. Wilson Jr., founder of the Buffalo Bills, embodies a significant vision for public accessibility along the river. Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and featuring contributions from architect Sir David Adjaye, the park includes major attractions like the William Davidson Sport House and Delta Dental Play Garden. As October approaches, final preparations are being made for a monumental public gathering, marking a pivotal moment in Detroit's urban landscape.
