On July 31, students from various North Texas colleges convened at Dallas College Cedar Valley for the Ready Set Hired! summit, a collaborative effort with the Texas Workforce Commission celebrating National Internship Day.The event transformed into a dynamic networking platform, providing students with access to employer booths, virtual reality experiences, practical resume evaluations, and insightful career panels. It emphasized how internships serve as vital conduits to numerous career opportunities.Micah Autry, a filmmaker and entrepreneur, was a leading speaker, underscoring the importance of approaching internships with seriousness. “I’m passionate about helping others,” Autry noted. He described how a singular opportunity catalyzed his career in media.He highlighted six pivotal changes in his life for focus, advocating academic discipline through punctuality, handwritten notes, and submitting completed work, proclaiming, “No zeros.” Joe Esparza from the Texas Workforce Commission reiterated the importance of collaboration among colleges, employers, and students, stressing that career development starts now.
