(The Dallas Examiner) – I have a doctorate degree in economics from Stanford University and a big portion of the credit goes to Mrs. Irma Lewis, who taught math at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in the early 1970s.Today, 3% of doctorates in economics are held by African Americans but this percentage was even tinier when I started graduate school in 1976. Women constitute less than one-third of the field. And until recently, I could count the number of Black women in the fields on my fingers and toes.Related Stories
