Rep. Terri Sewell Applauds Alabama's Selection as Future Home of Space Command Headquarters

U.S. Representative Terri Sewell (AL-07) celebrated along with her Alabama delegation colleagues on Tuesday the final verdict designating Huntsville, Alabama, as the permanent site for U.S. Space Command headquarters. "Huntsville is undoubtedly the optimal choice for Space Command," Sewell emphasized. The announcement from President Donald Trump marks a reversal of the Biden administration's earlier plan to retain the command in Colorado. This decision concludes a four-year struggle between Alabama and Colorado, as the headquarters promises significant economic advantages. “Huntsville has admirably secured this honor through tenacious efforts,” Trump articulated, flanked by Alabama Republican legislators. Senator Tommy Tuberville lauded Huntsville as the “perfect place” for the headquarters, while Senator Katie Britt expressed gratitude toward Trump for restoring the command's rightful home, emphasizing safety and security as priorities. Huntsville, renowned for its pivotal role in rocket development, is poised to transition approximately 1,400 Space Command positions to Redstone Arsenal over the next five years, ensuring readiness for challenges in space.
