RFDC's Freedom Schools Emphasize Literacy and Historical Wisdom

Collaborating with the Children’s Defense Fund, the Roberts Family Development Center (RFDC) has hosted Freedom Schools in Sacramento for over a decade. This year, approximately 840 students will benefit from this summer's six-week literacy program. It targets local districts like Twin Rivers, while also recruiting emerging educators of color. Founder Derrell Roberts emphasizes enriching students’ education and combating summer learning loss through literature reflecting diverse experiences.
