In a significant development, former MVP Russell Westbrook is set to join the Sacramento Kings, as confirmed by a source who spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday under the condition of anonymity, pending the team's official announcement. Westbrook's agent, Jeff Schwartz, validated the agreement to ESPN earlier in the day, though he did not provide further comments to the AP.
At 36, Westbrook enters his 18th season in the NBA, holding the record for the most triple-doubles in history with 203. He ranks 20th all-time with 26,205 points and is eighth for assists with 9,925. His career statistics boast averages of 21.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 8.0 assists.
The nine-time All-Star began with Oklahoma City, where he soared alongside Kevin Durant. After Durant’s departure, Westbrook earned the league MVP title and averaged a triple-double for three consecutive seasons. His journey also includes stints with Houston, Washington, the Lakers, Clippers, and Denver Nuggets. Last season, he averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists with Denver.
