Oak Park Glows with Culture and Celebration During Sacramento’s Juneteenth

The fifth annual Juneteenth Block Party transformed the streets of 40 Acres at 35th and Broadway into a vibrant showcase of Black artistry and culture this past weekend. Sponsored by St. HOPE, the event featured musical performances, artistic displays, clothing, and interactive activities that celebrated Black heritage. Over 1,000 participants explored various pop-up stalls while enjoying a lively atmosphere. First-time vendor Jordan Robinson expressed her excitement about sharing her artwork and connecting with the community, emphasizing the importance of preserving Black narratives. Notable features included a wine and beer garden operated by Black-owned businesses and Esther’s Park, where children engaged in activities and educational performances. Vendor Latanya James showcased her coloring books aimed at educating kids about various cultures. Photographer Kachiside Madu underscored the significance of his work in portraying the true history of Black communities. Overall, the block party provided a vital platform for cultural expression and community bonding.
