Macedonia Baptist Church commemorated its 75th anniversary on July 13, celebrating both its historical significance and enduring commitment to community service throughout the years.Originating in the mid-1950s, the church began with services hosted in the garage of founders Odessa and Robert Office’s residence. Guided by its inaugural pastor, Dr. Cleo Melvin Cummings, the modest congregation relocated to its current site at 700 Benton Ave. in Del Paso Heights. Cummings served for 23 years before Pastor Edward L. Varnado took the helm, leading for nearly four decades.As the church reflects on its heritage, it also anticipates a bright future.Pastor Jeffrey L. Johnson II, affectionately called Pastor J, stepped into the role as the church's third leader in February 2021. At 39, he brings a fresh perspective, committed to enhancing community engagement and support services.“Our vision is to make this church a seven-day-a-week hub for the community,” shared Johnson. With over 200 new members in just four years, his leadership has already sparked significant growth.
