Health authorities in Saint Lucia are remaining vigilant following the first measles case in the Caribbean since 2019 and outbreaks of the disease in other countries.
“As the island prepares for the increased visitor arrivals for the Men’s T20 ICC Cricket World Cup matches and the anticipated carnival celebrations, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs remains vigilant,” National Epidemiologist Dr. Michelle Francois stated.
Francois noted that measles is highly contagious and disclosed that vaccination is the best way to prevent sickness or spread the infection.
In a statement on Monday, the Health Ministry official disclosed that Saint Lucia has not recorded a measles case in over two decades.
