In light of a recent spate of serious accidents and violent attacks, the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) is urging a collective effort to prioritise safety across the island. The call came from the SLFS’ Public Relations Officer, Sherise John, on Monday, following a release detailing a series of incidents over a five-day period. John told St. Lucia Times: “The frequency and severity of these incidents are deeply concerning. As first responders, we continue to provide immediate care and assistance, but the root causes of these tragedies—ranging from road safety issues to violent crime—require urgent attention from all sectors of society.” On December 10, the SLFS responded to a collision on the Sir Julian Hunte Highway in which a motorcyclist sustained multiple abrasions across his body and severe penetrating wounds to his lower extremities. Two days later, emergency teams were dispatched to Cul-de-Sac in response to a report of a physical assault. The victim, who said he was attacked by an unknown assailant, was left with a severed hand. The attack triggered authorities to call for increased vigilance and public cooperation in identifying the perpetrator.
