House Republicans recently thwarted a Democratic initiative aimed at compelling the Trump administration to disclose files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s death and subsequent investigation. On Monday, July 14, the House Rules Committee narrowly voted against the proposal, with a tally of 5 to 7, as reported by Newsweek. Interest in these documents resurfaced following the Justice Department's recent announcement, clarifying that no clandestine list of Epstein's alleged trafficking clients was found. The DOJ memo stated, “This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list’” and confirmed Epstein’s suicide in custody in 2019. The memo has since drawn bipartisan criticism, particularly following Attorney General Pam Bondi’s prior claims that Epstein's list was available for review. Just before the vote, Congressman Ro Khanna introduced an amendment to the GENIUS Act demanding publication of the documents online, yet nearly all GOP members opposed the amendment, intensifying speculation regarding a potential cover-up.
