As classes commence this week, students at John Lewis Social Justice Academy, located at Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School, and Henry W. Longfellow Career Exploration Academy will step into newly constructed, purpose-designed campuses.These state-of-the-art buildings represent a combined investment of approximately $143 million and are integral to the district’s 2020 Bond Project, which encompasses $3.2 billion designated for new educational facilities and necessary infrastructure developments across over 200 of the district's 228 schools.Principal Michael Tatum of Longfellow shared his enthusiasm for the innovative advancements at his institution. “This building epitomizes pride in Dallas ISD, designed to give students a remarkable opportunity for success in life,” he stated.The $63 million Longfellow campus boasts facilities for six pathways, including business, law, and STEM, along with a production studio and library. It will also preserve historical elements, ensuring a connection to its past.Meanwhile, the John Lewis Social Justice Academy, renamed to honor civil rights icon Congressman John Lewis, will accommodate 800-900 students in its $80 million new facility, emphasizing resilience and transformation. Principal Monique Paige remarked, “This campus symbolizes a commitment to nurturing every child's potential.”
