Spiritual revival in Detroit as TéMaTé Institute convenes voices honoring heritage and creativity

The TéMaTé Institute for Black Dance & Culture will host its annual Convening for Dance and Culture in Detroit on October 18–19, 2025, uniting artists, educators, and community members in a celebration rooted in movement and heritage. This two-day event features workshops and classes at the Andy Art Center, alongside an evening performance dubbed Ritual: Rhythms of Life and Legacy, exploring how rituals bind individuals to their land, ancestry, and each other.Choreographed by Alghali, Idy Ciss, and Marie Basse Wiles, the concert—taking place at the Detroit School of Arts—will intertwine live percussion, vocals, and projection design, framing dance as living history.
