The Drip: The Cultural Currency Of Jewelry In Hip-Hop At The American Museum Of Natural History

By HWM Featuring a thought-provoking panel discussion on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 7 pm, with hip-hop icons, educators, and trendsetters. This program will explore the rich history and culture surrounding the world of hip-hop jewelry. The discussion will include trailblazing hip-hop artist Roxanne Shanté, celebrated radio personality Angela Yee, and curator at The Hip Hop Museum and member of Def Jam’s 3rd Bass Peter Nice, and will be moderated by Dr. Christopher Emdin, a renowned educator and leader in urban education. The group will discuss the evolution of jewelry in hip-hop, once met with stigma but now embraced as a symbol of personal identity, status, and cultural resilience. Before the panel, attendees are invited to explore Ice Cold: An Exhibition of Hip-Hop Jewelry, an exhibition currently on view in the Melissa and Keith Meister Gallery within the Allison and Roberto Mignone Halls of Gems and Minerals that celebrates hip-hop’s cultural influence through spectacular custom-made jewelry from its biggest stars. This program is for ages 21+. Tickets are $8 for the general public and $5 for Museum Members.
