(The Dallas Examiner) – Not all communities are created equal.Especially in cities like Dallas where there has been an economic boom North of Interstate-30, while areas of South Dallas lag behind.One such community is South Oak Cliff, considered one of the poorest areas of Dallas.But for community leaders like Derrick Battie, community liaison for South Oak Cliff High School, there is still a lot of work to do to transform this region of the city and close the economic gap.Much hasn’t changed in the South Oak Cliff area since Battie graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1992, where he led the Golden Bears to back to back state title games in 1991 and 1992, winning the state championship in basketball his senior year as a center and forward on the basketball team.Related Stories “South Oak Cliff is just as tough as they are today,” Battie said. “Now, the love and pride was strong and it has always been that strong for our community.
