The Sacramento Kings Celebrate Black History Month, Honor Community

February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate and recognize the many contributions of the Black community throughout history. In 2024, the Sacramento Kings proudly participated in this critical tradition by honoring and showcasing Black excellence. This served as a testament to the team’s commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equality.
In a statement, Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis said, “It is an honor to recognize the invaluable contributions and impact the Black community has made throughout history and continues to make in our region. We are committed to furthering our investment in Black and diverse youth, providing opportunities for growth while empowering them to prioritize their wellbeing.”
On February 7, during their annual Black History Month game against the Detroit Pistons, the Kings presented the Community Impact Award to Dr. Gina Warren and Marilyn Woods, co-founders of the Neighborhood Wellness Foundation. They were recognized for their efforts in addressing social, economic, academic, and health inequities to lessen the barriers of adversity.
