Union Leaders Demand Better After Reviewing WNBA CBA Blueprint

Ten days ahead of the impending expiration of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), insiders informed ESPN that the Women’s National Basketball Players Association is dissatisfied with the WNBA’s latest proposal, viewing it as unproductive for ongoing discussions. The league's offer—which has been reported by The Associated Press and confirmed by ESPN—features a base salary along with a revenue-sharing element, promising players a minimum salary exceeding $220,000, an average surpassing $460,000, and a maximum exceeding $1.1 million. Notably, in 2025, the league’s supermax salary was $249,244, while the minimum stood at $66,079. However, union sources indicated that the proposed structure fails to assure that player salaries and the salary cap adequately grow alongside business revenues, a crucial concern raised since the union opted out of the existing CBA in October 2024. Players are advocating for a revenue-dependent compensation model, akin to the NBA, where basketball-related income influences the salary cap.
