Three Arrested For Serious Offences During Gros Islet J’Ouvert

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, about 5:00am., the Special Operations Team, in conjunction with the Gros-Islet Police Station conducted routine security operations during J’ouvert celebrations, which resulted in the recovery of a stolen weapon and the arrest of three males, in Gros-Islet. As the festivities progressed, officers noticed a suspicious male, later identified as twenty-three-year-old (23) Gurshan James of Rose Hill, Castries and conducted a search of his person. Officers discovered and seized a stolen pistol equipped with an auto-sear, along with a magazine and twenty-six (26) rounds of 9mm ammunition. Gurshan James was subsequently charged with the offences of Handling Stolen Goods, Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.  He applied to the Magistrate’s court for bail but was remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility. Officers also recorded an additional success having apprehended a defendant, for whom a Commitment Warrant had been issued following his failure to comply with a court order. This defendant has been identified as twenty-eight-year-old (28) Stephenson Charles of Monchy, Gros-Islet. In the year 2022, Stephenson Charles was convicted for Possession of Firearm, and he was fined thirty-thousand dollars (XCD30,000.00ec) by the court.
