On April 29, the leader of the Opposition United Workers Party, Allen Chastanet, alongside UWP executives and prospective parliamentary candidates, convened at Constitution Park to honor the illustrious Sir John George Melvin Compton, who would have turned 100. A pivotal figure, Sir John guided St. Lucia to independence in 1979 as its inaugural prime minister, serving three notable terms throughout his career. Commemorating his legacy, the UWP reflected on his teachings of leadership rooted in service and the unyielding spirit of unity, emphasizing values that resonated through generations. Attendees paid their respects with wreath-laying, prayers, and songs beneath his statue.
