Black America Can’t Look Away: Trump’s Rule by Fear Persists

Recently, I navigated through Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport—an all-too-familiar space for me over my 30 years of travel. This occasion, however, was disconcerting. The TSA line resembled chaos, with frustrated travelers and overwhelmed agents announcing delays. When I inquired about the backlog, an agent remarked, "DOGE cuts. Limited staff and we’re all suffering." I felt a surge of frustration; despite arriving two and a half hours early and holding priority privileges, I just barely caught my flight. Before posting about my experience online, I hesitated, contemplating the dire ramifications if someone from the Trump administration came across my words. It’s a stark reflection of the climate he’s fostered, where fear reigns and dissent is punished. For Black Americans, this reality is particularly menacing.
