As hunger rates continue to rise, maximizing every dollar donated has become crucial. Two Sacramento organizations, Sierra Health Foundation and United Way California Capital Region, are collaborating on a Match for Meals campaign that aims to address escalating food insecurity in the area.This initiative will match contributions to five local food banks, pledging up to $300,000—$200,000 from Sierra Health Foundation and $100,000 from United Way. The campaign runs until January 31.Food banks are experiencing unprecedented demand, with over 1 in 5 Californians, or around 8.8 million people, facing food scarcity. In October alone, Sacramento Food Bank served a record 372,000 individuals, showcasing a 140% surge since the pandemic.Matching donations encourages larger contributions, doubling the impact. Chet Hewitt of Sierra Health Foundation emphasized the urgency of this initiative, underscoring food banks' role in alleviating hunger through effective resource utilization.
