Black Cadet Dies During Training, Family Questions San Francisco PD’s Actions

The family of Jon-Marques Psalms, a 30-year-old Black man who tragically died during a police training exercise at the San Francisco Police Academy, is demanding answers and seeking financial reparations from the police department. Psalms, an athletic cadet in his 14th week of training, sustained a head injury on August 20. Following a fainting incident during combat drills, he was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to complications two days later.An autopsy classified his death as an accident stemming from excessive physical strain, revealing a pre-existing condition called rhabdomyolysis. The family disputes the autopsy results and has launched a GoFundMe for an independent examination.The family alleges wrongful death, negligence, and other claims. They are troubled by the police department's response, including staff changes after Psalms’ incident, which they interpret as tacit admissions of wrongdoing.
