A devoted follower of the renowned soap opera "General Hospital" has tragically lost her home due to an elaborate scam involving AI-generated videos of actor Steve Burton. The 66-year-old superfan, Abigail Ruvalcaba, was deceived through Facebook into believing she was in a romantic relationship with Burton, resulting in her losing her life savings and familial residence.Ruvalcaba recounted to KTLA 5, “I thought I was in love. I thought we were going to have a good life together,” expressing disbelief at how convincingly the fake videos mimicked Burton's likeness and voice. The fraudulent videos enabled the scammer to steal over $81,000 from her through various means, including checks and bitcoin. Despite her daughter Vivian's efforts to intervene, Ruvalcaba had already sold her family’s condo, furthering the financial damage. Many online fans were stunned and expressed their concern, urging caution against similar scams. Burton himself acknowledged the tragic prevalence of such fraud in connections with fans, emphasizing he would never solicit money.
