October has held the designation of Children’s Health Month since 1960, originating from Child Health Day, which was first announced by President Calvin Coolidge in October 1928. This year marks my inaugural celebration of Children’s Health Month as a grandmother. My grandson, born in August, has deepened my affection for children in a way that is truly unparalleled. I hold a profound love for all children, no matter where they reside. My upbringing as the child of social workers instilled in me strong familial and community values, particularly regarding child protection and ecological stewardship. Children possess unique health needs, and the month reminds us to act on their behalf. From environmental threats like air pollution to climate change, children face numerous challenges to their health. As I rally alongside 1.6 million members of Moms Clean Air Force, I implore each individual who cherishes children to unite in safeguarding their futures, ensuring access to clean air, water, and thriving neighborhoods.
