Megan Piphus stands out as a remarkably skilled and multifaceted artist, making history as the first full-time Black woman puppeteer on "Sesame Street." Recently, she unveiled her children's LP titled "Cinderella Sweep," with the single "A New Cinderella" already garnering significant interest. The album highlights the contributions of 53 girls from the nonprofit "Saving Our Daughters," which empowers adolescent girls of color through mentorship and artistic expression. Piphus will showcase her talents live this week at the Black Music Museum on Saturday afternoon. Her performance will not only feature selections from her LP but also celebrate the unveiling of newly donated artifacts commemorating her impressive career and legacy. Her journey began at age 10 when she discovered ventriloquism and started performing at school and church events. By 11, she had secured three gold medals at the International Festival of Christian Puppetry and Ventriloquism (I-FEST). Additionally, she gained visibility after an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 2008, serving as her springboard towards success.
