Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) has appointed Freida Lashmit as the interim chief financial officer, a role she will fulfill until June 30. With over a decade of experience as a budget coordinator and three decades with WS/FCS, Lashmit brings a wealth of expertise. Notably, she previously held the interim CFO position in 2019. Lashmit steps in following the resignation of Thomas Krans, which followed an audit indicating a $16 million overspend in the 2024 budget. The district emphasized her capability in a press release, stating, “Lashmit will provide essential leadership to the Finance Department during this transition.” To facilitate a seamless fiscal year-end process and address budgetary challenges, the district is collaborating with HIL Consultants, a specialized school finance firm, while preparing to recruit a permanent CFO for the 2025-2026 academic year.
