Once upon a time, the heartfelt song “That’s What Friends Are For” emerged from the collaborative genius of Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. Initially recorded by Rod Stewart in 1982 for the "Night Shift" soundtrack, its most iconic rendition came in 1985 from Dionne Warwick, alongside legends Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder. The lyrics resonate profoundly, evoking a longing for such friendship echoed in the song. Reflecting on my childhood, I believe it captures the spirit of a dear cousin and friend.Throughout my life, I’ve encountered numerous friends, yet many have departed from this world or drifted away. Some I trusted only to face disappointment. Despite the hurt, I forgave but did not forget. My greatest blessing was my cousin, Bill Williams, born on Pearl Harbor Day. He was my protector, and together we navigated life's paths, sharing birthdays overshadowed by the season's festivities.Recently, Bill passed after an illness; I feel adrift. Yet, I know he’s reunited with loved ones in Heaven. Cherish your true friends, like Bill, and express your gratitude for their love.
