What initially began five years ago as an initiative to celebrate Black history has blossomed into a much-anticipated annual affair, welcoming nearly 8,000 participants. The Black Cowboys Parade and Festival, which took place on July 27, was envisioned by Black Expo Events founder, Rick Warren, to highlight the significant contributions of Black cowboys to American heritage.“A common misconception is that Black cowboys didn’t exist, yet their impact on building America is undeniable,” remarked Warren. “This parade serves as a dynamic representation of history within our community.” The festival featured live performances, delectable food, horseback riding, and a variety of vendors from Black-owned businesses. This year's "Down Home Blues Music Festival" showcased talents like the MDP Group and Sunny Blue Bland. Warren emphasized the festival's role as an “economic engine” for Sacramento, reinforcing the visibility of over 100 Black enterprises, fostering community pride and remembrance.
