In line with one of the core principles of the Lucian Carnival – sustainability – the seven contestants of this year's National Carnival Queen Pageant engaged in a tree-planting initiative last week. The event unfolded at the Prime Minister's official residence in Vigie, attended by reigning Carnival Queen Shan Lucien, Minister for Tourism and Culture Dr. Ernest Hilaire, and Carnival Planning and Management Committee chair Tamara Gibson, guided by the Forestry Department.
Alwin Dornelly, Chief Forestry Officer, emphasized the importance of this initiative, coinciding with World Day to Combat Desertification. He remarked that the National Carnival Pageant Committee sought a meaningful activity for the contestants, selecting tree planting to heighten environmental consciousness ahead of the pageant. Hilaire lauded the effort, emphasizing that this activity aligns the pageant with sustainable development.
Gibson highlighted the excitement among contestants, while Lucien expressed her desire for continuous engagement in such initiatives, stating that her reign signifies much more than beauty.
