(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) — This week, Fisk University announced it will phase out its gymnastics program after the 2025-2026 academic year, with the final competitive season scheduled for Spring 2026. This strategic decision follows an extensive evaluation of how the gymnastics program aligns with the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC), in which Fisk competes. Currently, gymnastics lacks HBCUAC sanctioning, complicating competition scheduling and hindering recruitment efforts.
“While we are immensely proud of the gymnastics team’s remarkable achievements over the past three years, we are eager to concentrate on teams affiliated with our conference to enhance our influence within the HBCU Athletic Conference,” stated Valencia Jordan, Director of Fisk Athletics. "We are thankful for the commitment and determination shown by our gymnasts, coaching staff, and all involved.”
Fisk University remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition for both athletes and staff. The community will honor the gymnastics team's legacy during the upcoming year, urging alumni and supporters to attend meets before May 2026.
