A Monday morning collision involving two taxis in Guyana left five people dead and four in critical condition in hospital.
The incident occurred along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, prompting a police road safety appeal.
According to a police release quoted by the state-owned Guyana Chronicle, the two taxis were traveling in opposition directions, allegedly at a fast rate, when one driver lost control as the vehicles were about to pass each other.
As a result, there was a head-on collision.
Traffic Chief Mahendra Singh expressed condolences after the ‘unfortunate‘ loss of lives.
