Gladys Knight has addressed claims made by her son, Shanga Hankerson, who alleged that her husband, William McDowell, is both mentally and financially abusing her. On August 15, the iconic singer, aged 81, firmly refuted these allegations while reassuring her fans of her well-being amidst her active tour. “I regret that my health and performances have been mischaracterized,” Knight remarked, according to PEOPLE. “I hope my supporters understand that I am thriving as a performer after spending nearly 75 years on stage.” This response follows the commencement of The Queens Tour in May, where she shares the stage with musical legends Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, and Stephanie Mills. “I feel healthy and joyful, reconnecting with my loved ones,” Knight expressed.
