Donald Trump’s "Big Beautiful Bill" poses serious threats to Black women by curtailing reproductive healthcare, maternal wellness, and access to essential support programs like WIC and SNAP. My own experience began when my daughter arrived prematurely, four months ahead of schedule. We found ourselves amidst the flickering lights and persistent beeping of a neonatal intensive care unit in one of America’s top children's hospitals. Each day, I witnessed her relentless fight for life as I navigated my own healing from childbirth complications. Despite our full-time jobs and robust private insurance, our medical expenses skyrocketed into the hundreds of thousands. Medicaid intervened, filling the gaps left by our insurance and granting me access to WIC, which ensured I could provide for my family when breastfeeding wasn't an option. Without these vital programs, we could have lost everything. Public assistance not only supported our survival but enabled our recovery and provided us with dignity. The July 3, 2025 legislation is a disastrous threat to struggling families, prioritizing tax cuts for the wealthy over our essential needs.
