At Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School, the significance of fathers as positive role models is keenly recognized. Joseph Thomas, the campus security officer, is proactively demonstrating how fathers and father figures can deepen their engagement. Understanding the crucial role of present father figures, Thomas initiated a chapter of All Pro Dad, a national organization dedicated to fostering family connections and encouraging paternal involvement. Established in 1997, this initiative adopts a sports draft approach to guide fathers in participating actively in their children’s lives.Motivated by a college acquaintance, a former NFL player, Thomas envisioned a path for Dallas ISD. His influence has notably expanded to additional schools, collaborating with Partnership and Volunteer Engagement Services as well as the Dallas ISD Police. Thomas, an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, champions community impact while mentoring as a vital figure in Dallas ISD for 23 years. His son, Jayvon, a successful cornerback with a promising future, actively contributes to their community efforts. The All Pro Dad Chapter promotes essential parenting resources and celebrates active fatherhood through their monthly gatherings.
