Up-and-coming table tennis star Manie Eleuthere earned a major win on the weekend, defeating Leshon Francis to lift the senior men’s singles title at the 2025 Independence Day Classic.  The competition concluded at the Castries Table Tennis Centre in Vide Bouteille on Saturday, Independence Day. The 15-year-old continues his remarkable rise in the game. He moved up to number three in the local senior men’s rankings after beating Joshua Lubin in the semifinals. With that win, he reversed the result from last year’s National Championships, where Lubin prevailed 4-3. Lubin, the top-ranked Under-19, came in as the third-ranked senior player, with top-seeded DeAndre Calderon currently playing in Germany.  Under-15 player Francis, meanwhile, overcame Chris Wells to make the final. Wells is the second-ranked domestic player, having sat at number one for several years before Calderon’s emergence.  Eleuthere, a student at Ciceron Secondary and former Under-13 Caribbean champion, breezed through from the group stage to the quarterfinals. With the youngsters setting the tone, the Saint Lucia National Table Tennis Association is looking forward to a busy year ahead, including participation in the Caribbean senior and age group championships in Barbados, and at least six local engagements.
