Nashville's Mayor, Freddie O'Connell, in conjunction with the Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) Board of Commissioners, has appointed Jamekia Bies as the new Executive Director of Metro Action. With two decades of experience dedicated to enhancing the social and economic well-being of families, children, and adults, Ms. Bies’s professional journey began at a Community Action agency in Western Alabama. There, she provided critical services, including Head Start, energy assistance, and housing support.Mayor O’Connell stated, “MAC plays an essential role in helping more Nashvillians flourish, and I look forward to working with Jamekia on this endeavor.” He underscored her extensive leadership background across non-profit, human services, and educational sectors.Ms. Bies has steadily advanced from practitioner roles to senior leadership positions, motivated by her passion for innovative poverty-alleviation strategies. She is especially renowned for her ability to integrate strategic operations with Metro Action’s NextGen and Two-Gen/Whole Family initiatives. Her official start date is September 29.
