Midwest Food Bank Secures $7 Million Funding for State-of-the-Art Facility

Midwest Food Bank Indiana is on the verge of commencing construction on a substantial 50,000-square-foot facility aimed at alleviating food insecurity across the region. Through its ambitious "Under One Roof" initiative, the nonprofit has successfully garnered $7 million toward an ultimate target of $9 million. This new establishment will streamline operations from two current sites, resulting in heightened efficiency and reduced operating costs, thereby enabling the organization to channel additional resources into feeding families and enhancing its services. "This campaign transcends mere infrastructure—it's fundamentally about people," remarked Diara Nicholson, executive director of Midwest Food Bank Indiana. "A unified facility empowers us to support more families and volunteers while swiftly addressing hunger needs.” The campaign’s major contribution of $4 million came from the Jean and Bernas Downing Charitable Trust, spurring an additional $1 million from community sources. Lilly Endowment Inc. provided $2 million, reaffirming its commitment to combating food scarcity throughout Indiana.
