Amidst a union-supported protest at Grenada’s Grand Bacolet Juvenile Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre, focusing on unmet benefits and inadequate working conditions, Saint Lucian Cabinet Minister Joachim Henry praised the facility as a benchmark for his nation's youth rehabilitation efforts. As the Minister for Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment, Henry asserted that Saint Lucia is adopting a centralized model, mirroring Grand Bacolet's inclusive approach for all youth, irrespective of gender. The Grand Bacolet, inaugurated in 2016, delivers an array of treatment programs, sports activities, and professional guidance. While discussions about enhancing youth rehabilitation in Saint Lucia have spanned years, significant movements are finally underway. An environmental assessment will follow a recent evaluation by Caribbean Development Bank representatives at the proposed George Charles Secondary School site, intended to consolidate existing facilities into a state-of-the-art center.
