Scholarship Renamed To Honor University Educator

The Black Parallel School Board (BPSB) is offering a scholarship in the name of one of its founding Board members and biggest supporters, the late Dr. David Covin. Founded in February 2008, the BPSB is a community organization developed to work parallel with the Sacramento City Unified School District. Its major responsibility is to support the educational growth and achievement of Black students. The David Covin Scholarship Fund was established in 2023 to honor Dr. Covin after he passed away. The program’s mission is to provide financial assistance to Black students who are graduates of a Sacramento area high school by the end of the 2024 spring term. Dr. Covin, professor emeritus of government and ethnic studies at Sacramento State, is being remembered for his many contributions to the university and the wider community. Dr. Covin passed away June 3.
