The Sacramento OBSERVER Debuts ONYX 25 Awards Celebrating Influential Changemakers

The Sacramento Observer is excited to unveil the first-ever ONYX 25 Awards, a prestigious event dedicated to honoring Sacramento's most impactful Black leaders. Set for Friday, November 14, 2025, this ceremony will recognize 25 extraordinary individuals whose creativity, leadership, and dedication are key in shaping the region’s future. Renowned comedian Tony Roberts will grace the event as host.The ONYX 25 Awards celebrate influential figures who transcend mere titles, embodying progress through purpose, resilience, and integrity. Honorees from diverse sectors—including education, business, public service, faith, the arts, and community advocacy—demonstrate what true power and influence represent in contemporary Sacramento.Publisher Larry Lee emphasized that these awards aim to highlight contributions often overlooked by mainstream narratives. The name ONYX was purposefully selected, symbolizing strength and transformation, mirroring the essence of Black leadership. The inaugural 2025 ONYX 25 honorees include accomplished leaders such as Rob Archie and Dr. Shirley Weber, among others.
