(Photos: YouTube Screenshots) - Is Uganda striking a deal with the Trump Administration to accept undocumented deportees, as reported by outlets like CBS News? Uganda has refuted these claims. In an interview with Reuters, Henry Oryem Okello, the country’s state minister for foreign affairs, stated, “To the best of my knowledge, we have not reached such an agreement. Our facilities and infrastructure cannot accommodate illegal immigrants. Thus, we cannot accept them. ”However, CBS News mentions it obtained “internal government documents” suggesting that Uganda plans to accept U.S. deportees from other nations in Africa, contingent upon their lack of criminal backgrounds. The extent of this potential arrangement remains unspecified. Reports indicate that Honduras has consented to accept Spanish-speaking deportees, including families with children, though only a few hundred cases over two years were approved. Meanwhile, Costa Rica and Panama are also reported to have taken in deportees of African and Asian descent. This policy has encountered condemnation from human rights organizations, especially in light of Uganda's troubling human rights record noted by the State Department.
