William “Custer” Horton, aged 64, of Nashville, TN, and formerly Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Family and friends can express their condolences and share memories at www.mccreightfuneralhome.com.Born on November 9, 1960, in Dyersburg, TN, Horton was raised in a devout Christian household, cared for by his grandmother, Estelle Horton. He embraced Christianity early on and took part in various church programs at Salter’s Chapel AME Church. In 1998, he wed Tabitha Harris, welcoming two sons. The family later moved to Nashville, joining Temple Church under Bishop Micheal Lee Graves.Custer excelled in sports at Dyersburg High School, earning numerous accolades in football. He played collegiate football at Tennessee State University before pursuing a career in construction and lawn care, forming lasting relationships with his clients. He is survived by his sons, mother Tommie Goings, siblings, and numerous family members. A Celebration of Life will occur on July 12, 2025, at Cottage Fryne Lake in Dyersburg, TN. Each life holds significance and is worthy of remembrance.
